It may seem like the campus and community is going to be so empty over spring break in Baldwin City without Baker students on campus, but the town still had multiple events. Here is what you may have missed over spring break.
Kicking the week off on March 14, Baldwin City had their second annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration, the Paddy Wagon parade. Golf carts, tractors, bicycles and UTVs were decorated in all things St. Patrick. These “wagons” were paraded around downtown Baldwin City, concluding at Baldwin City Beer Company. After the successful event, participants were encouraged to continue to support community businesses.
The Vinland Valley Nursery had three events that happened over the week beginning on Saturday, March 14, with the walk-in seed buffet. This was a previously held event back in Febuary where anyone who was looking to start growing plants could come in and pick from a variety of up to 24 different plants for $25. From March 16 to March 20, VVN hosted a spring break walk-in activities week where participants could put together their own tray of seeds, pick up some pottery and vintage flea. To finish off the week, VVN hosted a seed starting workshop on March 21 for $30 per person. VVN guided participants through the steps of starting a six-week plant, then how to maintain the growth, by providing the seeds, soil and a dome to protect the baby plants.
On Monday, March 16, Baldwin City Recreation Commission hosted the 2026 ShamROCK Hunt, an event where participants are given a clue via social media or their website to find a rock around town with a letter on it. A clue was given Monday through Friday, and at the end of the week, participants had to unscramble the letters they found to make a word, for a chance to win the prize of a Blackstone grill.
Om Grown Yoga and Wellness held back-to-back events starting on March 20 with the spring equinox walk around Goat Ranch. This event encouraged participants to meditate as they went on an hour-long walk, taking in the beginning of spring. On March 21, Om Grown continued their spring reset theme with an hour-long Nourishing the Roots of Spring yoga class. This specific class focused on strengthening and opening the “roots” of the body.
As if there was not enough going on in the Baldwin City community, various Baker Wildcats teams competed over spring break as well. Women’s flag football dominated all three of their games, bringing their record to nine and one. Dance and cheer both placed third for conference, solidifying their bid for nationals. Baseball went three and five, while softball split the week, going two and two. Men’s tennis record over break was two and one, while the women went one and two.
