Thanks to a grant from the Kansas Historical Society, one student’s paper has been made into a documentary over the electrification of Baker University.
Senior Tracy Light said she wrote the essay during her sophomore year in her Historical Methods course. The project is about how chemistry professor William Charles Bauer worked to bring electricity to the campus around the turn of the century.
Light said John Richards, assistant professor of history, proposed the idea of turning the paper into a film. The documentary will debut at 5 p.m. Friday at The Lodge. Light said a panel discussion is scheduled following the movie, with an encore showing around 6 p.m.
"This impacted Kansas as a whole," Light said. "People traveled from far away to see Baldwin City lit up at night."<br/>&#160;
