The Baker football team is searching for its first win in Lamoni, Iowa, under head coach Mike Grossner in a matchup against Graceland University Saturday.
The Wildcats are coming off a 29-21 win over Benedictine College while Graceland has lost four straight after starting the season 2-0.
“I like the way our team is focused. All we can control is our stuff,” Grossner said. “Let other people knock each other off, and then see where we end up.”
The Wildcat offense is on a roll, averaging 36.25 points per game in its last four games. The ‘Cats fumble against Benedictine was their first fumble in more than 13 quarters.
“Offensively we’re playing as well as we can,” Grossner said. “Our efficiency’s been real strong and defensively we’ve played real well, especially in the crucial situations.”
It will be a battle at the running back position as senior Richie Bryant goes up against Graceland’s running back Jerome Messam. Bryant leads the HAAC with 677 rushing yards, followed by Messam with 636 yards. Both backs are the only two in the HAAC to average more than 100 yards rushing per game.
“We’re going against a big-time back in Messam,” Grossner said. “We’ve got to shut him down.”
Baker is sitting at 3-3 and in fifth place in the HAAC.<br/>&#160;
