The Baker women’s soccer team showed no mercy as they trampled Missouri Valley College 3-0 Saturday.
Despite poor conditions, the women battled through the obstacles to take the victory, improving their conference record to 5-1.
“The conditions were against us,” junior Christine Janssens said. “It was very muddy, and a very bad field. So it took a couple minutes to adapt to it, but once we did, we got rolling and we dominated the entire game.”
Juniors Jenny Haynes and Jen Sampson and senior Rachel Shepard each knocked in one goal to give the team to a three-goal lead. Goalkeeper Maggie Dupes shut out the opposing team with three saves taking the team to an uncontested victory.
“We definitely didn’t overlook how they were as a team because they seem like they have done pretty well this year, but we definitely knew we could play against them,” junior Haley Oborny said.
With contributions coming from each athlete, Janssens said the key to the win was team chemistry.
“Our team has great dynamics now and the goal distribution is spread out,” Janssens said. “Everyone is contributing in their own way and it is just working great because we are using all of our talents and just putting them together.”
The Cats hit the road to take on conference opponent Lindenwood University at 5 p.m., Saturday. Janssens said this game will be especially important to the team as they seek revenge against Lindenwood.
“They are the team that ended our season last year so we are pretty bitter against them,” Janssens said. “They have progressively been getting better in our conference so I think it is just going to be a straight-up fight because we want it and I think we want it more than they do.”
Senior Mikayla Medlock said she is confident the team will be able to grab the win this weekend.
“Lindenwood is always a good game,” Medlock said. “As long as we have fun and play our game we will pull out a win.”
