The Baker University men’s and women’s golf teams competed in their second tournament of the fall season Monday and Tuesday at Eagle Bend Golf Course in Lawrence.
The women’s team placed third out of the four teams at the tournament and was led by senior Stacy Yowell’s eighth place overall finish. Yowell opened with a round of 90 and bounced back Tuesday with a round of 87.
“We are pretty young this year on the women’s side with two freshmen and a transfer,” head coach Karen Exon said. “I think by the time the (fall and spring) seasons are over, we’ll be pretty strong on the women’s side.”
The men’s varsity and junior varsity teams placed sixth and seventh, respectively, out of the eight teams at the tournament. The Wildcats were led by sophomore Sean Walsh, who shot rounds of 78 Monday and 79 Tuesday to finish 17th overall. Junior Michael Moyer followed closely behind Walsh with rounds of 79 Monday and 80 Tuesday. Junior Mason Dick, sophomore Andy Kelley and freshman Zach Pickett all finished one stroke behind Moyer.
“We’re finding our way, and I really just think by the end of the fall season that we are going to have a strong group of eight guys who are legitimate contenders who can compete on the varsity squad,” Exon said.
