The Baker University bowling team literally got the ball rolling with its first tournament, the Midstates Championships, Saturday and Sunday in Wichita, where it placed seventh out of 10 teams.
“It went 100 times better than our first tournament last year,” sophomore Brittany Barker said. “We have more experience and all of the girls did really well.”
Junior Caitlin Campbell averaged 178 and Barker averaged 175.
Barker said that as a team the Wildcats are looking forward to placing in higher percentages.
“We’re going to bigger tournaments this year,” Barker said. “We’re even going to Las Vegas.”<br/>
As a new season begins, the team has more expectations, as well as head coach Cheryl Keslar.
“Well, (Keslar is) expecting more out of us than last year,” Barker said. “(She is) expecting us to stick with the fundamentals and to believe in ourselves so we can succeed.”
The next tournament for the bowlers is the Sunflower Classic, which is to be Oct. 29-30 in Lawrence.
“We would love to have as many fans there as possible,” Barker said. “We would love for the Baker community to come support our team.”
