Ninety-six new faces are now being seen around campus sporting greek clothing and accessories.

Friday night marked the end of recruitment week when fraternities and sororities extended bids to potential new members.

Retention rates for the women’s side of recruitment were significantly higher than previous years, Brett Bruner, director of greek life and health education, said. Seventy-eight women started recruitment and 62 finished, marking an 80 percent retention rate.

“The women’s side of recruitment went very smooth,” Bruner said. “Our retention rate for recruitment was definitely up, which was a definite plus.”

Quota, which is the number of new members each sorority is able to accept, was set at 19. Alpha Chi Omega, Delta Delta Delta and Zeta Tau Alpha sororities reached quota, while Phi Mu sorority was able to offer five bids.

“I was extremely excited,” Nance said. “All of the houses worked so hard during work week, so when all of the new members finally run home it’s just a really great feeling.”

A total of 45 men received a total of 85 bids from Kappa Sigma, Delta Tau Delta, Sigma Phi Epsilon and Zeta Chi fraternities. Men are allowed to receive multiple bids from different houses.

“Each (fraternity) chapter extended bids Friday evening, technically Saturday morning to members,” Bruner said. “Members then had the opportunity to come in on Saturday morning from 8 (a.m.) to noon to accept their bids.”

With recruitment lasting one day longer than previous years, new members of the greek community weren’t able to celebrate with their new brothers and sisters until Saturday, but they still had fun.

“It was definitely fun,” freshman Jessica Long, a new member of Zeta Tau Alpha, said. “It was very rewarding just to be all together and to know that I was part of something here on campus and to know that they are all my sisters and that they’ve got my back.”
