The Wildcats held down the fort Wednesday when they pulled out a nail-biter win over Central Methodist University.
After a battle back and forth for five games, senior Alexis Pryor finished the 15-13 point game with a floater over the net.
The team will host Central Methodist again Saturday with the first serve at 7 p.m. to kick off the Heart of America Athletic Conference tournament.
Junior Nikki Anderson said the win at home was huge, as it allows home court advantage in the first round of the tournament.
“It’s a big deal to be able to play at home,” Anderson said. “We can stay focused on the game the rest of the week.”
The team crushed Oklahoma Wesleyan University Saturday in Collins Center.
The Wildcats handled the Eagles in three games, winning both game one and two 25-17.
Head coach Kathy Allen said the team was doing almost everything right.
“Everything was working for us,” she said.
During the third game, the Wildcats allowed the Eagles three more points but were able to hold them off to finish the match.
The work was spread evenly, as both freshman Rachael Solis and sophomore Brooke Pryor recorded eight kills with a .333 and .273 hitting proficiency, respectively. Alexis Pryor ended the three games with nine kills.
Senior Jayde Allen recorded 23 digs for the match and received honors for the second week in a row as the HAAC Libero of the Week.
“Jayde leads by example,” coach Allen said. “She is one of those players you can always point to and say ‘do it like her.'”
Freshman Kelsey Cobb, one of many young players on the varsity squad, said the team chemistry has helped the team progress to where it is.
“We’re starting to peak at the right time,” she said.
Before the Oklahoma Wesleyan matchup, the Wildcats came off a win over Benedictine College Oct. 30 in Atchison.
After battling back and forth, the Wildcats were able to pull out the victory in the fifth game.
