In the past, Baker students were only off three days for Thanksgiving break. This year’s break, however, will be an entire week.
At first glance, this seems like a really good deal. A whole week to go home and be with family. A whole week away from homework, tests and papers. A whole week to enjoy extra hours of sleep and several helpings of turkey.
Who wouldn’t want more time off from classes?
That, and how much can a professor actually accomplish in one or two class periods the week of Thanksgiving? Probably not much. In fact, it’s most likely better for them not having to worry about classes and assignments once Friday hits.
Even though getting a whole week off to catch up on friends, family and sleep seems nice, the realization of coming back to campus to practically finish the year with finals can throw anyone for a loop.
After break, students come back for three days of regular classes before finals start. It could be kind of hard for students to quickly get out of the mindset of break and straight into the attitude of studying for a week of finals.
But how many days can undo a whole semester of learning? Hopefully not more than a week, since students will need to recall everything they’ve learned the week they come back.
