Even if a person’s future career choice does not include law school, professors in the philosophy department are stressing the importance of taking PH311 Logic and Argumentation.
Offered at least once every two years, this class is designed to teach students how to create rational arguments while also using logic and reasoning to evaluate the various arguments that are presented. Prerequisites for this class are LA 101/111 or 301.
Assistant Professor of Philosophy Tom Peard has taught the class since he came to work at BU in 1997.
“It covers a lot of inductive and deductive reasoning,” Peard said. “Also, it helps students to recognize premise-conclusion form.”
The strategies learned throughout the course of the class have shown to be a great help when it comes time to take the LSATs. <br/>&#160;
