OK, let’s get one thing straight here. I am a Kansas City Chiefs fan.
Always have been. Always will be. End of story.
But I can’t help but shake my head in disgust at the way the team has been playing the last couple of weeks.
But don’t worry. I’m not discouraged.
I’m completely fine with yelling at the TV screen every Sunday in hopes that maybe, just maybe, head coach Todd Haley can hear me and will adjust his calls accordingly.
After all, you’re supposed to be critical of the people, or things, you love, right?
Sure, it’s easy to blame a loss on anyone from the kicker who missed the game-tying field goal to the quarterback who fumbled the ball on fourth down. And of course, who doesn’t blame the coach for everything in between?
It’s always easy to crucify a person when they do something as heinous as, God forbid, drop one pass.
But, despite all that, if I had it my way, and maybe someday I will, if I ever make enough money to buy my own football team, I don’t think I would get rid of a single Chiefs player. I honestly don’t.
Take wide receiver Dwayne Bowe for instance.
He’s had a couple rough weeks lately, but then that could be said for the entire team, too. But, despite a couple of dropped passes here and there, he’s still on track to beat his career record of 1,022 receiving yards set back in 2008, by already having a little over 600 receiving yards in just nine games this season. Check NFL.com if you don’t believe me.
Now, he may have a case of the butterfingers every once in a while, but he has managed to make some incredibly insane catches and touchdown receptions.
Would anyone ever think to get rid of him if he drops some passes?
Most definitely.
But would you keep Bowe if he puts up points on the scoreboard?
That would be a resounding yes.
Well, let me tell you, folks, he’s done both. And you can’t decide to keep him and get rid of him. Unless you’re playing Fantasy Football of course.
These people are human and we can’t forget that. Just because they make a few mistakes doesn’t mean they deserve the boot. If we’re keeping it real, they’re doing a better job than I could ever do at playing football, even though sometimes that is quite questionable.
But for now, I’ll continue to yell at them through the television and constantly keep in mind that one bad game, or two, or three, is no reason to give up on being a Chiefs fan.
