The Baker theater department attracted students and community members showing their support for the fall debut of “Blithe Spirit.”
“I just wanted to go because the theater department works hard and has a good reputation for their work,” junior Ashley Sims said.
The play appeared Sept. 27, 28, Saturday and Sunday in Rice Auditorium. Various show times also gave students the chance to see the play. Sims said the options made it more convenient for her to attend the play.
“I went with a bunch of friends,” she said. “We just formed a little group and went.”
Junior Justine Greve said all students should strive to attend a theater production because it gives people an appreciation for the abilities of their peers.
“I’ve enjoyed all the other plays, so I saw the poster hanging up and decided to go,” she said.
Greve said the play was really funny and the student actors came through with good performances.
“I was really impressed with their British accent,” she said. “The characters just all ran well together. It was really cool to watch. The special affects were well done too.”
Freshman Kylie Campbell said she thought the play was interesting, and that she likes watching the plays.
“I did plays in high school,” she said. “It’s cool being on the other side of things.”
Senior Hali Jewell said she really enjoyed working on the cast because everybody worked hard and was friendly.
“It’s a great cast,” she said. “We are all really good friends and we work really well together.”
While acting comes natural to some students, there are those who still get butterflies on stage.
“I do get stage fright pretty bad even though I have been in plays most of my life,” Jewell said. “I usually just get into the swing of things, I never look out into the audience and that helps.”
Auditions for the next play, “Marcus is Walking” by Joan Ackermann, were held Monday and Wednesday of this week. The play opens at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8 in Rice Auditorium.
