The Baker football team traveled to play Avila University Saturday in search of its first win of the season, and found it with a 41-0 victory over the Eagles.

There were 11 turnovers in the game between the two teams, Avila with seven and Baker with four.

“My concern offensively right now is we need to secure the football,” head coach Mike Grossner said. “We need to fix that if we’re going to win big games.”

All four of Baker’s turnovers were fumbles while the Eagles fumbled five times and quarterback Austin Cole threw two interceptions. Baker forced four of the seven turnovers in the first quarter.

“Everything with this game started with our defense,” quarterback Mack Brown said. “Our defense kept us in the game early.”

Brown found freshman Reggie Harris for a 29-yard touchdown pass to put the Wildcats up 7-0 in the first quarter.

Running back Richie Bryant found the endzone twice on the ground in the first half before a Derek Doerfler field goal gave the Wildcats a 24-0 halftime lead. Doerfler then hit a 57-yard field goal with 2:40 remaining in the third quarter to give Baker a 34-0 lead.

Brown threw two more touchdown passes in the second half, connecting with tight end Alfonso Nino for a 13-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter and sophomore Evan Branscum for a 7-yard touchdown in the fourth.

Brown, playing on an injured ankle, completed 19 of 30 passes for 180 yards and three touchdowns before coming out of the game midway through the fourth quarter.

Bryant had his biggest performance of the season, rushing for 242 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries, with his largest rush going for 76 yards.

The Wildcats have a bye week next week before taking on Culver-Stockton College on Oct. 3 at Liston Stadium.<br/>
