Baker University’s first wrestling team hit the mats Sept. 9 as it started its preseason practices.
Head coach Jimmy May said practices have been focused mainly on technique, but have been going great overall. Regular season practices start Oct. 12.
“It’s a good group of kids,” he said. “We’ve got about 40 kids total and things are going good. With 30 freshmen, it’s a young group and we need to get some practices in, and then college matches to give them some experience.”
The Wildcats will host their season opener against York College at 7 p.m. Nov. 7 in Mabee Hall.
The event will be focused on “resurrecting” Mabee, which hasn’t hosted a live sporting event for more than 20 years.
May said he was looking forward to bringing the “old building” to life for one night.
"We're pretty excited about it," May said. "We're going to set it up a in a little bit different format because there's no bleachers in Mabee. We're going to be doing chairs all the way around the mat, thinking kind of like a UFC type atmosphere. It'll be cool."<br/>&#160;
