Considering the catastrophic economic events that have plagued the university during the last year and a half, we at the Baker Orange feel compelled to point out how visible our administration has been over the past few weeks.
While the majority of us have felt in the dark when it comes to knowing the degree of panic the finances of our university should elicit, recently University President Pat Long and other administrators have provided numerous opportunities for those interested to gain a grasp on Baker’s plans for the future.
During the past two weeks, Long has hijacked a faculty town hall meeting originally designed to discuss the general education program, spoke to the Baker University Faculty Senate and offered a question and answer session to students during their lunch break in Harter Union. She is also slated to speak to Student Senate Tuesday.
Perhaps more importantly than the mere existence of these addresses is how forthright she’s been with the university community. Long has been remarkably candid with her replies, openly admitting the university still has a long road ahead of it in terms of balancing the Baker budget. She also has been frank with faculty and staff that reduction and reallocation is an imminent reality.
While everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion, and it is absolutely permissible to disagree with the choices made, Long and other administrators should be commended for doing their best to openly communicate their plans for the future. <br/>&#160;
