Homecoming should be a chance for all students at Baker University to get involved with activities.

From the annual BU Olympics, to the ever-poplar Skit Night, the week of events should be for all students and not just those in greek chapters.

The Student Activities Council has accomplished just that.

This year’s SAC board and Homecoming planning committee have made the week-long event an opportunity for each and every student on Baker University’s campus to get involved.

Those involved in greek chapters are still paired up, and compete against those not involved in greek life, but there is fair opportunity for everyone, greek or not, to be involved in all of the events.

This year’s Homecoming has been shaken up from how it has been done in the past, which is ironic, because the theme of this year’s Homecoming is “All Shook Up,” after the popular Elvis Presley song.

This year, more than ever, students are wanting to participate in events and wanting to show off their Baker pride.

With new, updated games at BU Olympics on Tuesday in Collins Center, including a dizzy-bat, tissue race and musical chairs, as well as a revamped Knowledge Bowl Wednesday in the Allen Dining Room and the addition of a PowderPuff football game Friday, SAC really did what it could to make the week fun for all students on campus.

In year’s past, greek organizations have dominated the participation at all Homecoming events, and the Homecoming candidates are typically students nominated by their respective greek chapters. But this year, four students not associated with greek organizations are nominated for king or queen. While the other six are members of greek organizations, they were not all nominated by their chapters.

For some, homecoming week is all about competing for the title of homecoming champions. For others, it is all about bonding with friends, sorority sisters and fraternity brothers.

No matter what students want to get out of homecoming week, Student Activities Council has helped to make that possible.
