Ultimate Frisbee has earned the title of newest club at Baker University, much to the satisfaction of students who petitioned for club status and are eager to begin competition against other schools.
Students met to write a constitution to present to Baker University Student Senate on Sept. 28.
Senior Evan Wright said he is happy with how the night went. He said the group brought up some good ideas.
“We discussed our constitution so that we could get it drafted,” he said. “We discussed a few final issues as far as getting more Frisbees and jerseys.”
Senior Mark Chubb said the club doesn’t have any money or equipment right now, so its members are looking into ways to raise money.
“We’re going to have to have some fund-raisers to buy equipment,” he said.
Chubb said he is pleased with the support the students have received for trying to start a club.
“(Athletic Director) Dan Harris has been amazingly in favor of this program,” he said. “Student senate has been pretty positive about it.”
Wright said he cannot wait to start competing against other colleges, such as Kansas State University and the University of Kansas. However, he said he doesn’t think the club will start traveling until next spring.
Wright said anyone can join the club. If too many people are interested in the club as soon as tournaments start, a roster will be written to show the actual tournament players. The club hasn’t yet determined how players will be decided.
Ultimate Frisbee will be played as intramural sport.
