In less than two weeks, the Baker women’s soccer team has defeated three nationally-ranked teams, moved up to No. 18 in the NAIA ranks and moved to second place in the HAAC polls with a 4-1 record.
The ‘Cats recorded a thrilling 1-0 victory Tuesday against No. 16 Park University after a goal by sophomore Jenny Haynes with 1:34 left in double overtime. Sophomore Alix Schiraldi collected the assist to Haynes’ shot, and for the first time this season, freshman Katelin Leon played as the team’s goalkeeper as Maggie Dupes was sidelined with a concussion.
“She did really well and stepped up to take Maggie’s place,” junior Haley Oborny said. “She had some really good saves for us.”
Oborny said the non-conference win was an important one to help with the national rankings and thought the team performed well in both overtimes.
“We knew that we could beat Park, so we all just came together and kept working hard like we did the entire game,” Oborny said.
Baker also recorded an exciting 2-0 shutout over No. 10 Benedictine College at Liston Stadium Saturday. Ashley Ukena and Rachel Shepard both scored goals and Dupes totaled four saves. BU will take on Missouri Valley College at 1 p.m. Saturday in Marshall, Mo. <br/>&#160;
