No college wants a disaster situation, either caused by humans or the weather, to occur on its campus.
To keep everyone informed, the Baker Campus Safety Notification System, known as B-Alert, has been established.
The system is in place to give faculty and students well-timed information about school closings, due to bad weather conditions or emergencies.
This information can be received through e-mail, text message or pre-recorded message in a phone call.
The system is set up for those who are located at the Baldwin City campus as well as the campuses in Overland Park, North Kansas City, Mo., Lee’s Summit, Mo., Wichita and Topeka.
Many students know that during the winter months, it is very rare for the Baldwin City campus to completely close.
Ice or snow can rarely keep the students who live on the university grounds away from classes.
However, if Baker would decide to close the campus at 6 a.m. one snowy morning, students could be told not to go to class by the time they wake up.
It is important for anyone who is a part of the Baker community to sign up for B-Alert to boost their own personal security as well.
B-Alert is an additional safety measure that is being used to keep Baker’s campus safe.
If an emergency would happen to occur, B-Alert can assist students in staying safe.
Baker is trying to do its job by setting up the B-Alert system. The only way the system can work is if students take the initiative to sign up for B-Alert, otherwise it will not work properly.
Baker has more than 1,000 students, faculty and staff on the Baldwin City campus alone, plus many other students on the other campuses.
It is vital to have a simple and speedy communication system that runs smoothly among the different Baker sites for the large quantity of people.
Although it is easy to overlook the B-Alert link on the Baker website, one could save oneself from being the only individual to show up to class when it’s canceled or from being hurt if an emergency would take place.
The B-Alert system is not something that every campus is lucky enough to have.
So, we as Baker students need to take advantage of this offer.
