The Kansas City metropolitan area has many citizens who find it hard to cheer for the Royals and Chiefs because of their lack of success in recent years.
Considering the two teams have won two combined playoff games since I was born, I can understand why people would have a hard time supporting the Chiefs and Royals, but I will always support them.
For those who have given up on the Chiefs and Royals, let me give you a team to cheer for that you might not know much about.
The Kansas City T-Bones.
The T-Bones are a member of an 8-team Independent Professional Baseball league called the Northern League. They play their home games in Community America Ballpark, which is located at The Legends in Kansas City, Kan.
The teams in the Northern League don’t have anything close to the talent of Major League Baseball teams, but the games are very are fun to watch. The T-Bones joined the Northern League in 2003 and the team won its first Northern League title in 2008.
Other than the Kansas City Wizards of Major League Soccer and the Kansas City Explorers of World Team Tennis, the T-Bones are the only professional team in Kansas City that has consistently been in playoff contention in their league in the past five years.
The T-Bones only have one home stand left in the regular season, Sept. 3-6, but are in good position to make the playoffs again this year. They have the best offense in the league, which is led by triple-crown candidate second baseman Jacob Blackwood.
The T-Bones offense leads the league in hits, homeruns, RBIs, stolen bases and team batting average, and the pitching staff features three pitchers among the league leaders in wins.
The T-Bones games won’t be shown on television, but if you get a chance to go to one of the last games this season or to any games next season, you probably won’t regret it.
Ticket prices to home games are anywhere between $6-$16 per game, there is a promotional give-a-way or event at almost every home game, and the T-Bones are statistically one of the best sports teams in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
The Chiefs and Royals both have a core of young, talented players that could potentially make them competitive teams in the next few years, but if you have lost hope for those two teams, the T- Bones are a team worthy of some support.
