Ghouls, goblins and ghosts don’t just stick to being creatures in horror stories; they’ll be making appearances on Baker University’s campus, as plans are being laid for the third annual Jolliffe Hall Haunted House.
The haunted house, which is being organized by Jolliffe Hall Director Will Weyhrauch with the assistance of Residence Life Coordinator Allison Scahill, is scheduled for Oct. 29 to 31.
Scahill said the haunted house, which is open to the Baldwin City community as well as the Baker community, will run from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. the first two nights and from 8 p.m. until at least midnight on Halloween.
“We will have certain hours directed more toward younger children, and in later hours it will be geared more towards college students and adults,” Scahill said.
Proceeds from a $2 cover charge will benefit the math and reading scholastic program at the Baldwin City Intermediate Elementary School.
Weyhrauch said he is looking for volunteers to help plan and run the haunted house.
“Anybody on campus is welcome to help out if they need some community service time or just want to have fun with a haunted house,” he said.
Scahill said the event raised $600 for MARS last year.
“It takes a lot to plan something like this. It’s a great way for the Baker community to connect with the Baldwin community, especially the kids,” Scahill said.
Sophomore R.J. Michel said he thought the haunted house was a good idea.
“Not only do Baker students get to do something fun and out of the norm, but it also benefits the kids,” Michel said.
Scahill said an informational meeting will take place at 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Union for people interested in helping with the haunted house.
