With several influential transfers signed on and a talented freshman class aboard, the Wildcat football team looks to add on to the program’s winning tradition.
“Our expectations are getting to the playoffs and winning the championship,” quarterback Mack Brown said. “A lot of people say that every year, but I truly believe there are different expectations this year.”
Running back Richie Bryant said he also believes the team has an opportunity to be very successful.
“We are looking to be one of the top teams in the (Heart of America Athletic Conference) this year,” he said. “I think we will be pretty tough as long as we finish games.”
Head coach Mike Grossner said the talent is definitely better than previous years.
“It’s very obvious upfront, we’re bigger and more physical,” he said. “Our guys outside are faster.”
Grossner said the freshman class is looking very strong and several players have already proved they can make an immediate impact. Brown said the team is looking to be as competitive as ever.
“Our line is a year more experienced so that will be huge,” Brown said. “The addition of (seniors) Marcus Nolan and Tyrell Spain will open up the slot receiver position for big plays. There’s not going to be a better wide receiver core in the HAAC.”
Bryant said the coaches were successful in bringing in another group of talented players in the off-season.
“The coaches did a lot of recruiting and that’s going to help out a lot,” he said. “We’re moving along pretty fast and the new guys are catching on pretty quickly.”
