University President Pat Long informed Baker University Student Senate Tuesday that the Liston Stadium field turf is being replaced.
It was noticed in the fall that blades were not standing upright in sections of the field.
“(The blades) were falling down and that’s not what you want field turf to do,” Long said. “The good news is FieldTurf is a company that stands completely behind their warranty.”
Two options were suggested to fix the field: it could be replaced in portions over time, or Baker could receive an eight-year warranty and a brand new field.
Long said the field is about $100,000 in cost, which would be paid for through raised money and leftover bond money from building the Living and Learning Center.
One-third of the money has been raised, and Baker can still keep the old turf. Long said it could be used on practice fields and batting cages.
"It was a good deal for us at Baker, especially during these times," she said.<br/>&#160;
