The Baker women’s soccer team couldn’t come back after falling one goal behind its conference opponent last weekend.
The team fought hard but lost 2-1 to Avila University Saturday night.
With a solid ranking and the nearing the Heart of America Athletic Conference tournament, the women came to the field ready to take out another conference opponent. The ‘Cats came out quick and took the lead with a score from junior Chelsea Lira.
“We started off strong, and we scored pretty much right off the bat in the first half, and we thought we had it,” junior Gina Schiraldi said.
Not ready to give up that easily, Avila quickly answered with a shot the ‘Cats couldn’t even see coming.
“They shot it, and the field was so bad that it turned when it hit a divot in the ground. The ball changed directions really sharp and went in the side of the net,” Schiraldi said.
