Although Art Affair is being sold, Baker art students have plenty of venues on campus to display their work.
The student-run art gallery was closed during the summer after falling into disrepair.
The Baker University Board of Trustees approved to sell the building at its Oct. 31 meeting.
The gallery at Seventh and High streets previously was used for local and regional artists to display their work. Students could use it for a work-study program.
Lee Mann, chair of the art department, said it would have been more expensive for the university to keep Art Affair because of the building’s deteriorated condition.
“Everything takes time and money,” Mann said. “We don’t have the space or the money right now.”
Mann said the university hopes to make a proposal for a new gallery in the future.<br/>Students have been displaying their art in the cafeteria the past few semesters. “I’ll really miss it,” Professor of Art Inge Balch said. “It’s really a student loss more than anything because it was part of their education. We just have to grin and bear it until we figure something else out.”
