The Baker University fall student-athletes not only excelled on their respective fields, but in the classroom too. Twenty-one Wildcats from five fall athletic teams were named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
The Wildcat football team led the way with nine scholars to lead the Heart of America Athletic Conference and rank No. 2 nationally.
“I’m just proud of those guys, they’ve done it in the classroom and on the field and that’s a true sign we’re going in the right direction,” head coach Mike Grossner said.
To receive this honor, student-athletes must keep a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale and have junior or senior status. The women’s soccer team ranked second amongst Baker teams with seven athletes to receive the honor. The Wildcat volleyball and men’s soccer teams had two student-athletes who were recognized and the men’s cross country team was represented with one runner.
“I think that from a university standpoint we can be very proud that we have head coaches and student-athletes that take both academics and their performance on the court very seriously,” Associate Athletic Director Theresa Yetmar said.
