The Stowers Institute in Kansas City, Mo., will play host to junior Christine Janssens from June 1 through Aug. 6.
Janssens was selected as a 2010 Stowers Scholar for the summer.
“A Stowers Scholar is just someone who gets to go work at the Stowers Institute. They get paid a stipend for it and they get to work one-on-one with a doctor and help them do their studies that they’ve been working on for their entire lives,” Janssens said. “It’s just kind of a research program with top-notch research facilities and stuff like that.”
Janssens applied for the position in hopes of it being a résumé booster.
As a pre-medicine student and biology major, she said a research opportunity was an ideal situation because she wants to go into the medical field, which is the opposite of doing research.
“I was hoping to dip my feet into something new and see if I like it,” Janssens said.
