Goblins, ghosts and pranksters are sure to scare up some fun this Halloween weekend, but students should work to stay safe during all the spooky excitement.
The spirit of Halloween gets everyone in the mood for costumes and treats, but can also present the opportunity for some nasty tricks.
While out enjoying the festivities, students should remember to take extra caution because of the increase in activity.
First, kids running around in Freddy masks aren’t the only creeps out and about. When you are out at night, be sure to always have a friend with you, and never wander unfamiliar territory alone.
Next, don’t let the thrill of the evening lead you to forget to be safe when drinking if you choose to do so.
It is never safe to drink and drive, so be sure to designate a driver before you go out.
Beyond the everyday danger of drinking and driving, there will be more people out on the streets celebrating, including children.
Trick or treating is fun, but if you choose to partake, follow the same rules you did as a kid.
Avoid getting yourself in a situation you can’t get out of with strangers.
College students prone to pulling pranks should also remember to keep it in line this weekend and not be tempted to let tricks go too far.
Respect others’ property and privacy, and by all means remember to keep it within the limits of the law. There really isn’t anything funny about vandalizing an elderly couple’s front lawn – it just indicates a frightening lapse in judgment.
Above all, have a fun, safe Halloween.
