During the Baker University Student Senate meeting Tuesday, Alpha Chi Omega sorority president Krista Yaktine requested to pass a motion to receive $300 in order for six women to attend the national Alpha Chi Omega convention in Washington, D.C., to gain leadership skills.
“We feel like the girls going are really going to be able to gain leadership skills and bring their skills back to the Baker community by going to the convention,” Yaktine said.
Yaktine said the reason more women want to attend the convention is because Alpha Chi Omega has a good chance at winning Chapter of the Year.
Alpha Chi Omega has already started to raise money for the convention, but it will cost between $4,500 and $5,000 for the women to go.
“I think it is important, though, that Baker stresses greek life, and the more leadership experiences that anyone can gain, either greek or independent, the more it will benefit the campus,” Yaktine said.
Student senate will make the decision at the next meeting at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
