Earlier this week, workers finished laying the new flooring in the weight room, and all equipment should soon be back in its original location.
Instructor of Physical Education Regan Dodd said the only thing left to do is to move all of the equipment in Mabee gym downstairs to the weight room, which will take some coordination with one of the athletic teams. She said the process of laying the floor was split between Monday and Tuesday.
“It took a while because you had to move the equipment to do half and move it again to do the other half,” she said.
Sophomore Heidi Compton said the lack of proper equipment has been a disadvantage to the women’s basketball team. She said it might be an adjustment to go back to the old equipment.
“When we start lifting now, I’m sure we’ll be sore,” Compton said.
Cheryl McCrary, co-owner of the Baldwin Athletic Club, said she offered special rates to some students who came in looking for a new place to workout.
She said that for those who came in, she waived the $75 joining fee and only charged students $39 each month they needed to use the equipment.
