Students who want to donate to a good cause and compete in the process can dig up some spare change and head to Harter Union during lunch this week. Saturday marks the annual King and Queen of courts.
With the 16 nominees already chosen and the points still being determined for each one, Cardinal Key is making an effort to make things rather interesting.
Students can place coins in a jar that count toward the nominee of their choice or cash, which counts against nominees.
The money will be raised to help juvenile diabetes, so many people see the cause as worthwhile.
Sara Crump, faculty adviser for Cardinal Key, oversees the process and makes sure to encourage students to volunteer to monitor the money in the jars so people can vote for their favorite candidates.
“The students really seem to be involved in this and the fundraiser is really clever,” Crump said.
Junior Di Tu Dissassa is directly responsible for organizing and planning the project and said it is the biggest project Cardinal Key coordinates. <br/>She enjoys the friendly rivalry the project brings to the school and appreciates the fact that proceeds will go to people suffering from the disease. She enjoys the friendly rivalry the project brings to the school and appreciates the fact that proceeds will go to people suffering from the disease.

She said diabetes is hard on people because they have to be more careful about what they do.
“I think that fundraisers like this are good because the campus is doing something good for the community and those who are less fortunate,” Dissassa said.
Cardinal Key Treasurer Stephanie Nelson hopes the fundraiser will help raise $100 or more for the disease.
Nelson works with children and has been around friends who suffer from diabetes.
“Anytime you can make a kid’s life better, then it is always a worthwhile venture to take part in,” she said.
