Rachelle Vigna sits at her desk in Parmenter Hall Monday through Friday as the Baker University Campus Visit Coordinator.
However, when 5 p.m. hits, Vigna starts her second job. She is a “memory-making specialist” and an entrepreneur.
Vigna started her business, It’s the Thought, in spring 2009 and runs it out of her home with the help of her husband, Dennis. It’s the Thought provides clients who have little time and creativeness with a person who will set up their event, such as a date or trip, and make it unique and memorable.
“I specialize in individual events,” Vigna said.
Many times her clients are calling to have her help plan a proposal or anniversary. She’s lit up a room filled with candles and set up picnics, leaving the client only having to worry about popping the question. Vigna cleans up after the events and makes sure to stay close by, but always remains out of sight.
The concept of It’s the Thought occurred to Vigna about 20 years ago when she and a friend men and women do not think alike.
“We said there should be some sort of service that a man can call to help him do something special for his girlfriend or wife,” Vigna said.
And that is exactly what Vigna does.
Her typical client is usually a man who doesn’t know what to do or how to make an evening special for the one he cares about. After hearing about money restraints, and about the person’s likes and typical day, she plans around the information she is given. Her creativity and out-of-the-box thinking help her to make a special occasion different than what the average woman may expect.
Vigna says many times her younger male clients, who may still be in a fairly new marriage, like to do something special for their busy wives. If the woman has children and works, It’s the Thought might do something like have the house cleaned while she is at work and have a babysitter for the kids so the wife can have some time to herself.
“Her passion to make people feel appreciated, and her creativeness is what is behind the event,” Dennis said.
Vigna doesn’t just aid men trying to keep their wives and girlfriends happy. Vigna makes cookies that are handmade and dipped in chocolate, which she sells to other business owners, who use these as gifts to clients.
Angela Motsinger is a certified public accountant and has been a customer of It’s The Thought for about nine months. She heard about the business from a friend and has been pleased with Vigna’s reliability and bargain prices.
“I would usually send cards, sometimes I’d send flowers, but the cookies are so reasonably priced,” Motsinger said.
Vigna helps people by asking what their budget is, and then finding something thoughtful within that price range.
“Some people ask me what I can do for $20, and I’ve had people willing to pay $750 to $1,000,” Vigna said.
Vigna says the key to doing something special isn’t money, but the thought. If a person is going to do something, they should start off small, and if they can, work up to more lavish surprises.
“Don’t start out with a trip to Paris because later on you’ll have to top it,” Vigna said.
The main reason Vigna has her business is to help others let their special someone know that they care.
“I can help them show that their loved one is appreciated,” Vigna said, “and I can make that event special in a way.”
