The Baker University women’s soccer team fell to Hastings College 3-1 in the NAIA National Championship Semifinals in Decatur, Ala.
Despite the seven shots by Baker in the first half, the teams went into halftime with the score tied at 0-0.
Hastings was the first to strike, scoring about 25 minutes into the second half. Less than three minutes later, Hastings scored again, taking its lead to 2-0.
Senior Christine Janssens had the chance to put Baker on the scoreboard with a penalty kick about 30 minutes into the half, however the Hastings goalkeeper saved the kick and the score remained at 2-0.
Hastings netted one last goal to bring the score to 3-0 with about 10 minutes remaining.
Not even 20 seconds later, senior Jen Sampson put one in the net for the Wildcats.
Baker tried for a comeback, but with only 10 minutes left in the match, was unable to overcome Hastings and lost 3-1.
Goalkeeper Maggie Dupes had three saves in each half for a total of six, and the team had 12 shots total, with seven shots on goal.
Baker Orange staff member Jordan Dolbin is ranked No. 23 in Division 1 in total assists as well as No. 45 in Division 1 in assists per game.
Junior Alix Schiraldi lead the team in goals on the season with 13, while senior Christine Janssens recorded 11 goals and three assists on the season.
This is also the best season record the team has had in the past four years at 14-6-4.
