The last game at Liston Stadium for the seniors of the Baker University football team would be a memorable one as the Wildcats defeated Evangel University 41-6 on Senior Day.
Head coach Mike Grossner was impressed with the effort and overall performance of the team, with the exception of coughing up three fumbles. Despite the three fumbles, and a rare interception thrown by freshman Jake Morse, the Wildcats were still able to win the turnover battle, by hauling in four interceptions and recovering two Evangel fumbles.
“Whether it was a three-and-out, or a turnover by an interception or forced fumble, we were all over the ball,” Grossner said. “We were as good as we have been all year.”
Junior Adam Steele and senior Matt Brock led the defense again with 12 and 11 tackles respectively. Senior Colton Miller also had one of his best games of the season by knocking the Evangel quarterback, Ryan Roepke, out of the game in first quarter and then recording two interceptions and seven tackles in the game.
Baker will play Central Methodist University in the final game of the season at 1 p.m. Saturday in Fayette, Mo.
With a win against Central Methodist Saturday, the senior class would compile a record of 28-12 over the past four seasons.
