In conjunction with the American Library Association, Baker’s Collins Library introduced a week dedicated to the topic of banned books.

On Tuesday a Brewsday was held for students to come to the library for discussions about various banned books and suppressed literature.
After sending out a campus-wide survey, “To Kill a Mockingbird” came in as the No. 1 pick for the favorite banned adult book.
Reference material was also made available for students to look up the reasons behind a book being challenged.
Sophomore Stephanie Brown views bringing awareness to banned books as a positive effort on the library’s part.
“I think it good making awareness known,” Brown said. “There is stuff in books which cause controversy. However, there should be a better alternative then banning a book to resolve the controversy.”
