Baker University’s art department had its five-year review a year late Oct. 30.
“Every five years, departments on campus go through an outside review process, and of course, not everybody could do it all at one time, so we have three or four departments each year that have an outside reviewer come in and review their department,” Lee Mann, chair of the art department, said. “Ours was six years this time, because last year I was a brand new chair, and Brett (Knappe, visiting assistant professor of art,) was a brand new art historian, so we were really in transition, and they let us postpone it a year, which was wonderful.”
Glenda Taylor, chair of the art department at Washburn University, performed Baker’s art department review. She started her day with an entrance interview, visited classes, toured the facility, looked at the art holdings in Collins Library and ended with an exit interview that provided feedback to the department.
“It really looks at what we need in the future, whether we need more faculty members, whether we need different equipment, all kinds of things,” Mann said. “It really is a great assistance to a department to have that review to really highlight what the needs of the department are and what the successes are.”
