The Shore Weight Room was reopened Nov. 2 after a two-month closing to clean the mold underneath the floor.
The new floor, which Athletic Director Dan Harris said is made of a high-level quality of rubber, was put in by large strips, as opposed to the squares the old floor was laid in. Harris said the material is tailored to prevent the problem of water leakage that occurred with the old floor.
“It does not allow any water absorption,” he said. “It has a warranty for eight years, but it will probably be good for 10 to 12 years.”
The floor did not come without a price, but Harris said the new floor is worth the cost.
“It was definitely way over our budget, but we viewed it as a long-term investment,” he said.
Instructor of Physical Education Regan Dodd said she was pleased with the installation of the new floor.
“We are really lucky to have this new floor. It was worth it,” Dodd said.
The track team, as well as many other teams, train every day in the weight room. Junior Zach Atzeni said he didn’t notice too much of a difference.
“It’s pretty much the same (as before the renovations), but there wasn’t that much done to make a difference,” he said. “I’m just glad to have it done.”
