The strong outside shooting of the Baker men’s basketball team lifted it to a 63-60 victory over Kansas Wesleyan University Tuesday evening in Salina.
The win improved the Wildcats to 4-2 overall. After a slow start in the first half, BU tightened the deficit to trail by just one at halftime.
The ‘Cats controlled the second half, leading majority of the time and shot 40 percent. Junior Austin Bond had the hot hand with 16 points and four field goals from behind the three-point arc. Bond also collected six rebounds and three blocked shots.
“The team is really coming together,” Bond said. “All of our teammates are trusting each other and moving the ball and everyone contributed.”
Junior Manuel Medina recorded a standout performance with 16 points off the bench and senior Malcolm Greer added 13. In a close contest, Bond said the team made great strides to pull through with a win.
“It shows that we’re coming together and we’re gelling at the right time,” he said.
Baker will take on the University of Saint. Mary at 7 p.m. Saturday in Leavenworth.
