By now I’m sure many of you have heard or seen the outrageous remarks made by rapper Kanye West during country singer Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for winning Best Female Video of the Year at the 2009 Video Music Awards.
Unexpectedly and without reason, Kanye rushed the stage and snatched the microphone from Taylor Swift and said “Yo, Taylor. I’m really happy for ya. I’m gonna let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time. One of the best videos of all time!”
At that instant, you could just hear the jaws drop all around the room.
Beyonce herself was just as shocked as she mouthed “No, Kanye!” and looked around the audience in consolation.
Though MTV is known for its scripted gimmicks and sub-par reality, no one in their greatest mind could’ve predicted something like this happening.
As unconventional and controversial as Kanye West has been in the past, even this was out of character for him.
During the pre-show and on the red carpet, he was spotted drinking liquor and carrying huge bottle of Hennessy, but who knew it would ignite such behavior?
Not only that, Taylor was set to do a live performance 15 minutes later, and at the tender age of 19, she had to quickly dry her tears that were shed backstage alongside her mother’s to gear for her upcoming act.
As karma later bit Kanye in the rear, Beyonce ended up winning the ultimate award for Video of the Year and allowed Taylor Swift to come back on stage, finish her speech, and relive her “moment” (the class act of the night).
Meanwhile, Kanye West and his girlfriend, Amber Rose, had been escorted out of the building.
West has since released apologetic statements and gone on “The Jay Leno Show” to try and clean his slate and do damage control, but what he did was just unacceptable and offensive to not only Taylor Swift, but all of her adoring fans as well.
Now being on the outside looking in, it’s much easier to cast judgment and be quick to slander the name of someone else’s wrongdoing, until we’re the ones on the other end of the spectrum. But in no way, shape or form were his actions acceptable, and I hope he works hard in bettering his behavior and controlling his emotions, like he claimed he would do on “The Jay Leno Show.”
I guess Jamie Foxx isn’t the only one blaming it on the alcohol.
