After an impressive 2008 regular season that ended with a 43-9 win over Avila on Saturday, the Baker Wildcats football team was rewarded for its efforts by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Sunday.
The ‘Cats (8-3) needed Lindenwood to beat Missouri Valley Saturday to lock down an at-large berth in the national playoffs. The Lions, who edged Baker by four points earlier in the season, beat Missouri Valley 21-18, solidifying head coach Mike Grossner’s Wildcats spot in the playoffs.
The team will travel to Sioux City, Iowa, Saturday for an opening round bout with Morningside College. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.

Baker won 4-2 in a thriller that saw three lead changes and three goals from Baker seniors who clearly weren’t ready for their collegiate soccer careers to come to an end.
The national championships are scheduled for Dec. 1-6 in Fresno, Calif. Baker will face Park University in the first round on Saturday at Liston Stadium.
