The tones of tenor and soprano saxophones filled McKibbin Recital Hall Sunday during the 30-minute junior recitals of Kyle Jones and Christy Taylor.
Taylor performed three pieces while Jones performed two. Jones said the junior recital was a way for the two performers to practice for next year.
“It’s prep to get over stage fright and prep performing multiple pieces,” he said. “We get to prep for our senior recital.”
Both performers played their pieces alongside a piano accompaniment. The performers were happy with their performances during the show.
“It went really well. Christy and I got many praises from the people who came to watch after the show,” Jones said. “I got compliments I was surprised to hear.”
Many of the audience members who attended the recital came to support friends.
“I came to support someone who has supported me, and I was really impressed by both the performers,” freshman Drew Linenberger said. “They gave excellent performances.”
Most of the audience echoed the positive feedback that the performers received.
“It went well and was very well performed,” sophomore Lindsay Cornella said. “The performers were very well prepared. They were very professional, and they knew what was expected of them.”
While the audience liked the presentation, the artists felt the pressure before the performances started.
“When I started I was nervous, but as I got closer I was more excited,” Jones said.
However, the musicians saw many problems with their pieces as well.
“From an audience standpoint it was fine, but there were some notes missed and one of my valves got stuck,” Jones said.
