Alpha Chi Omega sorority has 135 chapters across campuses nationwide.
The Omicron chapter at Baker was recently named one of the top four chapters in the entire country, president Libby Steele said.
“We basically put together a handbook that allows us to toot our own horn and tell why we think our chapter deserves all these different awards,” she said. “Then once the book is together, we ship it off to headquarters in Indianapolis. They announce the winners at the national Alpha Chi Omega convention every year.”
Baker’s chapter is a finalist in nine different categories, including alumni-parent relations, chapter management, fraternity appreciation, intellectual development, member education, Panhellenic participation, philanthropy service, risk management and chapter of the year.
“We will find out in 2010 if we won,” Steele said. “The chapter rents out a resort for the convention and there are alumni members and people who are on national boards for our sorority there. So it’s pretty cool.”
