The opening of a Subway restaurant brought another choice to the Baker University community and Baldwin City residents, and another option may soon be on its way.
Sophomore Mattie Deel, an employee of Subway, said the restaurant is good for Baldwin City because it provides much-needed variety to the eating establishments in town.
“I really like working at Subway because we make good sandwiches, we have a variety of choices and I get free subs all the time,” Deel said.
While others may appreciate it, Deel said the only thing she doesn’t like is that Subway stays open until 10 p.m., requiring her to work some nights.
“I want to go home and go to sleep,” she said.
Sophomore Kyle Ruona said he thinks the Subway will do well because people are always attracted to new businesses.
“I like both (Mr. Goodcents and Subway) ’cause they have different kinds of subs at each place. Subway has toasted subs, while Goodcents has pastas and soups,” Ruona said. “I will probably eat at the one that is the cheapest and has the most specials.”
Mr. Goodcents owner, Bryan Grissell, said he doesn’t think the business is in jeopardy..
“There used to be a Subway in town before Mr. Goodcents and they didn’t make it, but if they make good subs and have specials they should be all right,” Grissell said.
Grissell is in the process of selling Mr. Goodcents and said he plans to open a bakery at 215 North 6th St.
