Baker University Student Senate voted to pass a motion to donate $300 toward research for muscular dystrophy Tuesday night.
After hearing a moving story about a University of Kansas student suffering from an unknown form of the disease, sophomore Shavon Brown decided to raise money to help the cause. Her goal was to raise at least $1,000 to go toward muscular dystrophy research.
“The $1,000 that I am trying to raise is only 10 minutes of research,” Brown said.
Brown raised $800 through donations from her church, door-to-door collection and her own personal money before asking Student Senate to contribute $150.
Instead of donating the amount requested, Student Senate decided to double the contribution amount. The money donated by Student Senate will help Brown to surpass her goal, making the donation total more than $1,100.<br/>&#160;
