Baker University Student Senate plans on working to unify the Baker and Baldwin City communities this year, Treasurer Michelle Burton said.
“This year we really want to kind of step it up, and we really want to get (University President) Pat Long involved in a lot of stuff because we basically want student senate to be connected with the faculty, connected with administrators, connected with students, connected with the community and connected with Baldwin City as a whole,” she said.
Vice President Ashley Locklin said a few suggestions to improve campus were made at the first meeting Aug. 29.
“One thing that was mentioned was to get picnic tables on campus so students can sit around outside and relax and eat their lunch at and stuff,” she said.
Locklin said senate is trying to encourage students to come to meetings and voice their opinions.
“We want students to know there is open forum so if there are any issues that need to be brought up, anything on campus they would like to fix or to bring positive feedback, to bring it up and to discuss it during open floor time,” she said.
Public Relations Officer Jacinta Deruso said freshman class officer forms will be distributed today and due next Friday.
“The main goals for the week are to get freshman elections going for their class officers because we don’t have any right now,” Deruso said.
