The Baker women’s soccer team ended its regular season against Graceland University Nov. 3, and it was the Yellowjackets who ended the Wildcats season 11 days later.
The Wildcats advanced to the HAAC Championship game Saturday but fell to Graceland 2-0 in Lamoni, Iowa. A pair of Chelsea Phillips goals in the first half sealed the win for the Yellowjackets, which secured the HAAC title as well as a national tournament berth.
Baker finished with a 13-7 record overall and placed second in the HAAC during the regular season.
“We worked very hard (to reach the HAAC Finals), it didn’t just come easy, so it was definitely a long process, but it was worth the hard work we put into it,” Burks said.
The Wildcats made a large jump in the standings from last season to this season, going from sixth in the HAAC to second this year.
“It’s sad to be leaving as we are becoming more successful, but hopefully we’ll have another strong recruiting class,” Burks said. “It was a great year. It’s hard to leave it, but it was a good year.”
