From academics to general chapter improvements, the greek organizations on campus have taken home awards regionally, nationally and internationally.
“We had a variety of organizations win awards over the summer,” Brett Bruner, director of greek life and health education, said.
Delta Tau Delta fraternity received an award for the most improved chapter in the Western Plains Division as well as a reward for 10 percent growth March 1 at the Western Plains Conference.
“This really gives us encouragement for the hard work we have put into the house this year,” Delta Tau Delta President Jeff Skillman said. “It shows we are moving the right direction.”
Zeta Tau Alpha sorority received the activities award for small campuses and the crown chapter at its 2008 international conference.
“Crown Chapter is one of the best awards you can get, and it is really prestigious,” Zeta Tau Alpha President Katelyn Brewer said. “I’m really proud of all the work that we did as a chapter, and I am hoping that it is something we can attain again.”
While most of the awards the greeks have received may not include a direct monetary reward, chapters that have been awarded can present the accomplishment to alumni, which can encourage an investment in both time and money.
“Just the mere fact we are able to tell alumni (about the award) can get them enthusiastic and encouraged,” Skillman said. “They know that what they donate will go to successful venture.”
The recent accomplishments have served as encouragement to push toward more improvements in the Baker University chapters.
“This is just a small step in the right direction,” Skillman said. “We have good guys in the right positions, with a common goal. Right now we are all moving forward as one.”
Delta Tau Delta is hoping to receive the Hugh Shields Award as well as the Court of Honor at next year’s conference.
Other organizations that have earned awards at either regional, national or international conferences include Phi Mu and Delta Delta Delta sororities, and Kappa Sigma and Kappa Alpha Psi fraternities.
