The men’s tennis team grabbed its first win of the spring season in a near flawless performance Tuesday against Tabor College.
The team played to seven and won the match 6-1, losing only at the spot of No. 3 doubles.
“We did very well,” senior Hunter Hollarn said. “It was pretty cold outside. Usually you play the best out of nine matches, but we stopped after seven because it was so cold, and we had already won the match.”
Due to an ineligible player, Hollarn was forced to step up into the No. 2 position on the team, but didn’t skip a beat as he won both his singles game and doubles game.
“Hunter did a really fine job of switching over doubles partners, which he had to do and then he had to play two instead of three, and that’s a hard transition,” head coach Bruce Anderson said.
Hollarn now plays doubles with No. 1 player Bozo Zaputovic.
The two players have adapted quickly, wining back-to-back games against Lindenwood University and Tabor College.
Hollarn said the two players hope to keep the streak alive.
“We just set a goal and we kind of want to see if we can go undefeated the whole season at No. 1 doubles, so we are just going to work as hard as possible to try to make that happen,” Hollarn said.
The ‘Cats battled through nearly freezing temperatures but grabbed their first win on the home court.
The women’s team couldn’t adapt as well to the cold temperatures and strong winds Tuesday.
The women lost 5-2 against Tabor College. This loss takes the team’s record to 0-2 for the spring season.
“We did really well, all of the matches were very close, but…we just couldn’t pull it out,” junior Jen Ackerly said.
