“Changing the conversation about mental health” is what students of the Active Minds at B.U. group are hoping to do.
Active Minds, Inc., is a national organization designed to raise awareness of mental illnesses, specifically on college campuses.
Sophomore Meredith Hodges, president and creator of the group, said Active Minds at B.U. is the 244th national chapter and the first in Kansas.
Hodges said her goal for this group is working to get rid of negative stereotypes and raise awareness of mental illnesses like depression, suicide and anxiety and eating disorders.
“I want to make the overall concept of mental illness not so taboo,” Hodges said.
Hodges and other officers met Wednesday to plan official meeting times in order to discuss what sort of events to sponsor and when events will occur.<br/>&#160;
