A 43-year-old Baldwin City man was found dead by police who were called to 221 1/2 Baker Street Saturday. Baldwin City Police Chief Mike McKenna said the coroner ruled the cause of James D. Brown’s death to be suicide.
Police found Brown in a bedroom dead from a gunshot wound to the body, McKenna said.
McKenna said the shooting was called in by a witness at 3 a.m.
He said he was in concurrence with the coroner’s findings.
“This is a person that had medical problems, was unemployed and consumed alcohol in excess,” McKenna said. “With all the information on all the facts that we can prove … the only conclusion that can be reached is a self-inflicted wound.”
McKenna said there was another suicide in Baldwin City over the summer and in September of 2006.
